The plan, day by day

  1. Day1

This 1 day beginner surfing course is run on one of the 10 beaches on the North of the island that is offering the best surfing conditions on a given day. Every surf lesson starts with a good surfer style warm up, including running, push ups, stretching, yoga and much more. Later on you learn how to enter the water safely, how to paddle to catch a wave and stand up on the board. Before going into the water all students are given the safety brief and made aware of the lesson plan, possible dangers and all the signals/commands used by the instructors. The 1 day course is aimed at introducing you to this wonderful water sport and showing you the basic learning techniques. You will learn to control, paddle and surf small “” waves in shallow water. As 95% of our students want to continue learning after 1 day we strongly encourage you to book multiple day course and get the best deal for you and your friends.

  2. Day2

The 1 and 2 day surfing course is aimed at introducing you to this wonderful water sport and showing you the basic learning techniques. In these 3 days you will learn how to stand up and primary water safety. We will spend 3-4 hours in the water everyday learning standing techniques, board control, paddling and wipe out survival! In addition to that you will also be given theory lessons on types of breaks, surf board design, equipment, history and water survival and safety.

  4. Day4

On the 4th day you’ll get more secure standing on the board and beginning to ride some ‘white water’ waves.

  5. Day5

By the end of the 5 day course you should be standing and getting to feet correctly. You’ll learn how to trim the surfboard and develop a surfer’s stance. Questions

Before you book

Why choose Flag Beach for your Fuerteventura surf school?

With over 35 years of watersports experience, Flag Beach is Fuerteventura’s longest-established surf school. We operate a mobile surf school, which means we drive you to whichever of the north’s 10+ surf spots has the best conditions each day for your surf lesson. This flexibility ensures beginners get gentle waves whilst more advanced surfers can access the island’s challenging breaks.

Our surf instructors are VDWS-recognised and IKO certified. They know every beach from Corralejo to El Cotillo inside out. We teach in six languages and keep group sizes small for individual attention. All surf equipment such as wetsuits, boards and insurance is included in your surf course package.

I’ve never done this. Is that a problem?

Not at all. The beginner courses start from zero, on the beach, with a theory lesson before you go near the water. You do need to be able to swim.

What’s included in a course?

Your instructor and the equipment. For private surf and kitesurf lessons you rent the equipment separately. Each course page lists exactly what is included and what the day-by-day plan looks like.

Can I get a licence?

Yes. Flag Beach is VDWS certified. The international VDWS licence is included in our wing foil courses and in our kitesurf and wing foil camps. On kitesurf courses you can add it for €20. With the licence you can rent equipment at other centres afterwards.
