Kitesurfing Courses

Courses are run on a continual basis with groups of not more than 4 people per instructor on the beach part of the course (day 1 of the beginner course)and 2 per instructor in the water. Most people have very limited experience of kitesurfing so book the beginner and waterwork courses but we can teach to any level as some of our instructors compete at international level.

 

Flag Beach over the years have developed a very efficient teaching method (we have been teaching kiting since 1999) which involves running courses downwind using 6 metre semi ridged inflatable boats. Our 3 boats are all equipped with first aid kits, VHF radios, mobile phones and all have either 70 or 80 HP engines. This gives up the flexibility to teach kiting anywhere around the northern tip of Fuerteventura regardless of the wind direction. This also means that there is no walking back upwind as anytime spent in the water is 100% in the water. 

 

Certificate / Licenses

We are a VDWS recognized centre offering the kite qualification and our instructors are also IKO certified so we are able to offer the IKO Kiteboarder card. 

 

2 day Beginner Course
2 day Beginner Course

In low season this course is run 3 times a week, every Sunday & Monday or Tuesday & Wednesday or Thursday & Friday starting at 11:00 am. During the peak season, we often start courses everyday.  It is 4 hours on the beach on the first day and 4 hours in the water on the second day. 

 

Day 1

  • 1 hours theory with an introduction to kites, wind window, safety, tides, weather and with a look at different types and sizes of kites and boards.
  • Rigging up (inflation, connecting lines, harness and how it works).
  • Launching (off the beach).
  • Landing (on the beach).
  • Basic flying, figures of 8s, one handed flying to the left and right, relaunch, explanation of the wind window and operation of the quick release (safety system)

Day 2

  • This day will start with a getting kitted out (choosing the wetsuit, harness, buoyancy aid, crash hat)
  • Then we go into the water either off the beach or from a boat, depending of wind conditions and will consist of 2 pupils to 1 instructor sharing one kite and the first part of the course will be body dragging where we cover one handed body dragging, figures of 8s, relaunching and upwind body dragging.
  • After that you will have a break before going back in the water to learn how to get on a board.

Water Work
Water Work

This 4 hour is course aimed at people who have done a beginner kite course elsewhere and for one reason or another were unable to complete it or feel you would like to recap on the water work to boost their confidence. You should know all the theory, be a competent beach flyer but just need to cover body dragging and getting on the board. 

 

This course will be taught from the beach or off the boat and all equipment is included in the course price.

Downwind

This a 1 hour downwind blast with a group of kiters. The safety boat follows you and this is aimed at people who just want to practice riding. There is no instruction involved just assistance and equipment is included.
